the daily enlightenment with james

Just got back from the Tapes N Tapes in-store. Not sure why everyone has lost interest in this band over the past year, Tapes N Tapes are a great live band and the new album is really good. Although, I do have one issue, the CD/MP3’s are mixed too high and sounds overmodulated, while the vinyl sounds amazing. I asked them about this, and they told me it was mixed like that due to the recording process, and it should be listened to on LP. Here is my first set of pics, will have more later after I get them back from the developer.

Enjoy!

And if you got nothing to du tonight, go to the Bowery Ballroom to see them do the songs live! And then buy it. They have grown by leaps and bounds and this album is really good.

Holy crap….I just came across this website: FUEL FRIENDS Check it out, its got tons of rare Replacements and Paul Westerburg outtakes and live stuff!

So this past weekend I had the chance to check out the National @ BAM both Friday & Saturday night. (Thanks to scalpers I got Sat. tickets cheap on the streets) Anyways, here’s my take.

Friday’s show was more low key and stuffy. It’s really odd to see a “rock” show where we are suppose to sit in out seats. At the Saturday show, the band told everyone it was okay to stand, so that was better. Saturday the band also seemed a bit more relaxed and comfortable with the venue, the Sat. version of Mr. November was probably one of the best versions I have ever heard, Matt and the band gave it their all. Saturday 2/23 was better…..

Here are the set list for each night, and if you go to Nyctaper.com you can download his recording of Friday’s show!

So, Jimmy Kimmel has found this kid named Brandon Hardesty (you can google him and find his site) who re-enacts famous movie scenes. Well, this week leading up to the Oscars he is going to re-enact the Best Pictures ones. First up, There Will Be Blood. Also, there will be a special Jimmy Kimmel Live Episode after the Oscars on Sunday. (Kimmel is shot across the street from the Kodak Theater, where the Oscars are held, gee I wonder if Matt Damon will be on the show?) Here is Brandon doing There Will Be Blood: (Click the pic!)

Yesterday, a commenter didn’t think Daniel Day Lewis did a mean Sean Connery impersonation in There Will Be Blood. Click on the photos and lets go to the tapes…(also they look a bit alike, eh?)

Sean Connery in Finding Forrester:

And Sean Connery, oh I mean Daniel Day Lewis, in There Will Be Boredom:

First off, I am so sick of everyone thinking that There Will Be Blood is the best film in the past ten years, sure, its an okay film, but its not the best. First of all, Daniel Day Lewis does an amazing Sean Connery impersonation for 2 and half hours and it gets old. But what really bugs me is I have already seen Paul Dano’s character in another film…… Children Of The Corn….Lets look at the tape:

Yeah, I know its been awhile. Hi, how are ya? But I am back with a post that will kick you in the ears. A buddy of mine sent me this link the other day after we were talking about the Steve Albini sound. Little did we know, but Steve was set to produce Fugazi’s record IN ON THE KILL TAKER. Well they did some demos with him, and were not happy with it and went back to DC to record with Ted Nicely again. Well, click on the pic to download the Steve Albani demos for In On The Kill Taker and discuss….
