STRANGE SEARCHES

So I have been writing this site now for a little over 6 months and figured like everyone else in the world, I will go over some of my favorites things over the last year.

Top 20 Records of the Year.

1. Beirut - the Gulag Orkestra: Beirut - Mount Wroclai (Live On KEXP).

2. Two Gallants - What the Toll Tells: Two Gallants - Las Cruces Jail.

3. Tapes n’ Tapes - The Loon: Tapes N Tapes - Cowbell.

4. Man Man - Six Demon Bag: Man Man - Spider Cider.

5. Detektivbryan - Hemvagen EP: Detektivbyran - Dansbanan.

6. Thom Yorke - The Eraser:
Thom Yorke - The Clock (Live on the Henry Rollins Show)

Radiohead’s lead singer ventures out into solo territory with his concrete wasteland of an album. It’s predominately an electronic collaboration with producer Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck, Travis). The effect of the album is cold and sterile, black and grey, but in it’s lack of warmth there is a beauty of structure and it’s feeling of confinement. The songs are crafted impeccably with Yorke’s political commentary, but they have the sentiment of love songs. (Dan, I’m on FIRE!)

7. the Gossip - Standing in the Way of Control: the Gossip - Your Mangled Heart.

8. Mars Volta - Amputechture: The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute

9. Tiger Lou - The Loyal: Tiger Lou - The Loyal.

10. Grizzly Bear - Yellow House: Grizzly Bear - Shift (acoustic)

Brooklyn’s Grizzly Bear follow up their lo-fi electronic folk album (and subsequent remix album) with an organic, transcendent album that mixes intricate folk based compositions with many layers of all four members vocals. The songs on this album creep up on you and once they get a hold of you they won’t let you go. (Dan, I’m on FIRE!)

11. Cold War Kids - Robbers & Cowards:
Cold War Kids - We Used to Vacation (Daytrotter Session)

After a series of EP’s and incessant touring, California’s Cold War Kids put out the catchiest and most rewarding album of the year that is a collection of re-recordings from the EP’s and a couple new songs. The stories that lead singer Nathan Willett croons and yelps frequently touting his perfect falsetto, are at times haunting and cold while still finding a positive light to view his characters. The rest of the band backs him up with energy and a raw sound that emulates their live show to a tee. This album is timeless. (Dan, I’m on FIRE!)

12. A Hawk and A Hacksaw - The Way the Winds Blows
A Hawk and A Hacksaw - God Bless the Ottoman Empire.

13. Clap Your Hands say Yeah! - s/t:
Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah - Upon the Tidal Wave of Youngblood (BBC VERSION)

14. White Magic - Dat Rosa Mel Apibus: White Magic - Katie Cruel.

15. Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther: Midlake - Roscoe

16. Soft Circle - Sundrenched FADER 7inch: Soft Circles - Sundazed.

17. Friska Viljor - Bravo!: Friska Viljor - Gold

18. O’ Spirits - Ms. Housewatcher UUAR 7inch: O’ Spirits - Mrs. Housewatcher

19. Russian Circles - Suicide Squeeze 7inch: Russian Circles - ReEnter

20. Crictkets Club - s/t 7inch: Crictkets Clubs - Cian .

HONOR ROLE (released in 2005): Jose Gonzalez - Veneer and Pelican - The Fire in our Throats.

Please note the lack of the hip hop records in my list. Here are some noteworthy records that didn’t make my top 20:
Ghostface Killah, Cadence Weapon, Arecee (where’s that mixtape, kid?), Lupe Fiasco, Lady Sovereign, and the new Clipse.

So as you all know, I love the google searches that lead people to thepunkguy.

My newest favorite.  “jokes handjobs cabs”   I don’t remember saying a joke about handjobs in the back of cabs.  But you guys know any??

OK another google search for “8 ball of cocaine price” has lead another unsuspecting teen to my site.  Why do you need to know this?  Did you happen to buy one and want to know if you got ripped off?  Did you find one on the street and need to know what the going rate for it is?  Are comparing sellers?  Why?  Why?  Tell me!

So as most of you know, I am obsessed with google searches that lead people to thepunkguy.com , a friend of mine, whom we will call Handsome Dan, works at two large venues in NYC.  We call him handsome cause he’s the kind of dude that girls walk up to and introduce themselves.  Anyway, today, I checked out my links and there was one that had Dan’s name and his place of work.   I emailed Dan, and said, did you meet a girl last night?  Cause she’s googling you.

So be careful, who you google.  THEY are watching you.

Maybe another Computer Sniglet?  Anyone?

I swear this is my last posting today.. One more great google search that led some unsuspecting viewer to thepunkguy.com.

Google Search: photos of fluffers on porn set .

Why not just look at porn? This is sort of specific, don’t you think??

So I had another google search lead someone to my site tonight using the words “8 Ball of Cocaine.” Why am I getting the feeling that I am giving some poor 14 year old non useful information about what an 8 ball looks like and where he can get one and what it might cost him.

Fun facts about 8 balls of cocaine:

A. They are not, in fact, black.

B. You can not play pool with them, however, most people who shoot pool are high. Particularly that crazy Asian girl.

C. Cocaine, while not directly used in hospitals, is a great cure for the ’sniffles.’

D. 8 Balls, will not make you better looking, so to speak, however, it will make you more appealing at 3am.

E. I don’t know what the going rate for an 8 Ball is but you should ask everyone at every party you go to this weekend for one. Nothing is more soothing than someone asking for coke every thirty seconds.

coke

So once again a strange google search has lead someone to my site..

I can just imagine the story. A man goes to Montreal for work, let’s say he’s into vintage books. He goes up for a big vintage book, pamphlet and comic book convention.

That night after the convention, he goes to a strip club called Heels and Hoes. He goes with some of the convention guys, you know the type, lovely wives at home, a little nerdy and a bit of money. Our hero Abe, who is single, meets a lovely young gold digger named “Tyler”, who brings him into the champagne room, where she gets over 300 dollars of his newly acquired “first edition Hobbit” money with promises of more touching and longer lap dances.

When he gets back to the hotel, he seeks his revenge, starting with a google search “tyler montreal stripper“. Unfortunately all he gets is me. Sorry Abe, can’t help but godspeed.

So, google search number 5 that brings people to thepunkguy: a search for an 8ball cocaine photo, awesome.  See other fun google searches here.  Should I post one??  This is the closest thing I could find..

Ok so we all know that I am a little obsessed with the searches people do to find thepunkguy, (i.e here, here and here)

The lastest Google search to lead someone to this site was a search for “how long does an 8-ball cocaine last?” Someone did a google search and came across thepunkguy.com. Awesome! We are fun and educational.

And I think the answer to that question is; it matters on how big your nose is!

Someone did a MSN search for “funny DJing Cat Picture” and thepunkguy.com came up. Once again, I ask, why is someone searching for this and why did thepunkguy come up? The best part about it is, you know how if you misspell something or do a search with few responses they suggest something else, the MSN search engine suggested “Funny Dying Cat Picture.”

Hmmmm… Funny Dying Cat Picture?
