just a quick list of things I have been up to and why I haven’t been writing…
a. I have been working a shit ton at weird half days and things and barely have been getting enough sleep for anything. DJ’ed twice this week and might do it again next week.
b. Had two celebrity sightings this week. I know I know, it’s NYC and I am rarely ever star struck but… one morning I was going into my work building and Andi McDowell from Groundhog’s Day fame was coming in, she opened up the door for me and my roommate and then began asking around if anyone knew where she was meant to be. Ha.
But that isn’t the big one.
Two days ago, before going to work I had to stop at the bank of 5th and 18th and as I was walking out I saw a group of people surrounding a black SUV. There were people actually screaming shit at whoever it was. I mean there’s a paparazzi in NYC but not like this. It was like everyone who was walking by needed to stop and look, as did I. I got closer and saw that it was fucking Bill Clinton. I mean fuck, an American President. I smiled and called my mom. She wasn’t impressed that much.
c. I have been listening to a lot of metal. Just tons of Russian Circles, Sleep, Rosetta, Pelican, Om, Earth and Mammatus. Maybe I’ll post about some soon. I actually passed out in the middle of the 63 minute Sleep song yesterday. Napped in the middle of Sleep. I think I have issues.
d. I have also been stressed about cash and bills and all that. Anyone who would like to give me any donations please contact me…
e. What else? I have also been listening to the same Shellac song over and over and over. I think I am going to post it but it’s like fucking 11 minutes long.
f. I might go and photograph the pillow fight that’s happening in Union Square at 3pm today with some of my cameras.
g. I also go the HDTV set up in my place, damn. You have never experienced Discovery Channel till you watch the shit on HDTV.

Last night I had the great honor to be a guest at the Arcade Fire / The National show at Radio City Music Hall. My ears felt like they had been given and expensive massage and my celebrity eyes were going foggy from all peeps at the show. It was the first time I’d ever seen either band, though I tried and failed to get into the Judson Memorial shows. The Arcade Fire is a very special band and they put on an inspired and extraordinary performance. The National were also fantastic, and I’m sure their sold out Bowery shows will be even better with them in the limelight.
First off The Music Slut has a great write up with pictures HERE.
After the amazing show I went back stage where I hung out with Will from The Arcade Fire, Brian from The National and even spent a little time chit-chatting with the grand dungeon master of Pitchfork Media and newly anointed New Yorker, Ryan Schreiber. Which was really cool, because he’s a super nice guy and spoke candidly about the power Pitchfork holds. Really interesting stuff.
Then I met a couple SNL dudes (Bill Hader, but Andy Samberg and Fred Armisen were there too) and talked about how awesome Grizzly Bear was at their last Bowery Ballroom shows.
It truly was a great night, with amazing music and wonderful people. Don’t miss these bands!

3. Check out our new video for “Beauty”, the first track on our new album. It is absurd, creepy, and fun for the kids. Well, maybe. DO they like it when Daddy wheres Mommy things? Ok, then let’em watch it here http://www.myspace.com/31knots
4. This maybe the most important aspect to this note. We all need to help Jay W. achieve a higher level of fluency in the Spanish language. Why? Because learning never stops, you knuckle-dragger!! So, if you know Spanish send him some Goddamn conversations, via mp3’s or the written word. He’s like a 3rd grader in both. Let’s get him into puberty at least.

I’m a pretty big fan of The Hold Steady’s latest album ‘Boys and Girls In America’. I’ve listened to it countless times. I’ve memorized lyrics and even used a few for my instant messanger status quote. What I apparently haven’t done is memorize what they look like.
Last night I sat beside, was introduced to and chatted with Tad from The Hold Steady. Only I just realized it after watching the new video for “Stuck Between Station”.
Damn these good for nothing celebrity eyes!
Check out the new video for STUCK BETWEEN STATIONS!

Let me start this “My Celebrity Eyes” off by saying, it really pains me to write this… Chester Bennington from Linkin Park is an exceptionally nice guy. Yes it’s true.
![]()
I mean it’s real irony that someone who makes (in my opinion) such incredibly awful music be such a nice humble guy and anyone I would really want to meet, probably be a total flying douchebag…
With that being said, last night, a few coworkers and I went to the Etnies / Club Tattoo showroom in Soho for Chester Bennington’s new line of Etnies. We walk in. Some things we noticed immediately:
a. There is someone tattooing someone on a pedestal in a spotlight. ok. unusual but not out of the complete ordinary.
b. There are a lot of kids here. I mean like what seemed to be like 17 yr old skaters, drinking free booze.
c. There are at least 4 people walking around with hi end video cameras filming people I don’t recognize talking directly into fish eye lenses.
d. The average height of every single guy in this place is 5′ 5′’ . Granted, I am no giant, but there must have a been a picture of that rapper from Linkin Park outside holding up a microphone saying “You must be shorter than my Mic to enter the free booze and bad tattoo ride inside”
(you must be this tall to enter!)
Anyway, since I am on the wagon for this month, don’t ask, I am sitting around with my bottled water and my coworker when, Mr. Screamer himself, Chester Bennington, comes directly up to us and starts talking to us. We talk for about 15 minutes about Art and Tattoos and he then politely excuses himself and says it very nice to meet us both.
What?? I wanted to hate him so much. I did. I did. But unfortunately he was pretty awesome. It’s a shame since I was just about to delete all two of my linkin park mp3’s that I didn’t own. Damn! Oh well..

So I expect Danonfire to post more about the show that him and I went to last night at Bowery Ballroom… however, let me say this about Grizzly Bear. They are great live. I really didn’t have quite that high of expectations due to the fact that most of the material is so mellow. But it was really a dynamic show. I am sure Dan will post more about it soon, including pictures.
However, while we were at the show, “My celebrity Eyes” saw two people that you might recognize. First mr. John Cameron Mitchell.
He was there with a long haired, straight out of Lords of Dogtown surfer dude.
Also comedian, Demetri Martin,
looking short haired and far away from any Microsoft Vista operating system.
here is a live track from Grizzly Bear: Grizzly Bear - 01 Plans (Live on MPR 10-8-2006)

Now don’t get me wrong, I could care less about Celebrity or celebrities. I would much rather meet David Gordon Green than Seth Green. However with that being said, there are times living in NYC when you see famous people in places you’d least expect them. So without further ado …
MY CELEBRITY EYES:

1. Mr. White Fang himself, Ethan Hawke at Union Square cinemas buying a ticket alone on the opening day of smoking aces. Was he going to see his FLOUDERING castmate Jeremy Piven in a role of a lifetime? Maybe. Maybe. (FRIDAY 01 / 26)

2. Comedian and Russian giant Eugene Mirman along with Justin Theroux and teen heartthrob Josh harnett all at Saved Gallery show in WIlliamsburg last night. All the ladies watched as Josh walked around checking out paintings by Jeremiah Maddox. 10’s of people confused. (SAT. 01 / 27)
He looked like that. Sort of.
All seen with my Celebrity Eyes!
