What is your name? Where are you? How did you get started in porn?

Joanna Angel! I am currently in Los Angeles right now. When I was in my last year of college I took some naked pictures of myself and had a friend put them on the internet. That is basically how I got started in porn.

I know you’re from NJ, as am I, what’s your favorite thing about NJ? worst?

My favorite thing is Diners. My least favorite thing is jug-handles. Man. Fuck those things!

Favorite diner in NJ? (editor’s answer: Tic Toc on Route 3)

The Edison Diner – i think it is on Route 18? Or Route 1. I can’t remember. That and the Suburban Diner in Paramus NJ. (editor’s note: Route 1)

In your opinion, when does pornography become art?

Hmm. When it has some kind of value to it that can do more to you than just give you an erection.

Better punk band? the Misfits or Crass?

What’s your favorite thing about sex?

It’s a really fun way to just let go and explore different parts of yourself.

What’s been your biggest accomplishment yet?

This year I won three AVN awards. I would have to say that was a pretty big accomplishment for me! This past year I also cam out with a blow up doll. I mean- you know you have really made it when someone can fuck a plastic figurine of yourself.

Any fantasy that you still haven’t lived out on camera?

Hmm. I have lived out most of my fantasies. I would like to have sex with Sarah Silverman on camera… and I know I haven’t done that yet. Not only is that my fantasy but it is all of my twitter follower’s fantasies! I get asked when that is gonna happen like, at least 3 times a day.

Do you believe monogamy is realistic?

Yes. It is, if two people are really un attractive and have a really low sex drive. Sure, then it sounds like a great idea.

How does your dating life differ from anyone not in the ‘industry’?

Dating when you are in the industry is a very tough thing. Whoever enters my love life- has to understand that I need to share really passionate and intimate moments with other people as part of my job. That is not even an easy feat for someone else with the same job. That is something Pam and Jim from the Office definitely do not have to deal with! Hahaha- I was just using them as an example of a very “normal” couple.

If you could be a TV star, what show would you want to be on and what would you be?

Hmm. I really wanted to be a judge on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” but they never answered my email. I don’t know why. I think I could have judged drag queens really well. I also really want to be on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” I think it’s a really funny show- and from what I see, it looks like it is mostly improv and I think my sense of humor and their sense of humor would jive really well together.

What is the biggest misconception about porn stars?

That we are all multi millionaires. I think it’s because Jenna Jameson went on VH1 like 10 years ago and was like I AM SO RICH! SOOOO RICH! I HAVE SO MUCH MONEY! WOOHOO! I have no idea why she did that. It was pretty weird. In any case, pornstars are not all millionaires. In fact, I would say that right now there is not one working porn star in the industry with one million dollars in their bank account.

Are you or have you ever been religious? What role does religion have in sex?

I was very religious growing up. I associate religion with my family- and when I think about my family- I don’t like to think about sex.

My friends and I have found out much later in life that we all watched porn in the same manner (f. forwarding through the whole thing and went back to our favorite scene) How do you watch porn?

Well you know what, you and your friends can go fuck yourself because it takes SO LONG to shoot the plot and I work SO HARD on that shit. Can you tell me their names? Their email addresses? Their phone numbers? I WANT TO HAVE A WORD WITH THEM!! Seriously. Sometimes on set- we spend like 18 hours shooting the “plot” then 35 minutes shooting the sex. SHOW SOME RESPECT!!! WATCH THE PLOT!

Tee hee. I am only half joking.

I actually watch the plot- then watch about 5 minutes of the sex. Sometimes I watch a minute or two of each position. But honestly I watch porn for “research” more than I do for pleasure. I know everyone too well to find it pleasurable anymore!

Any sex toy that you couldn’t live without?

The Hitachi magic wand. That is every woman’s best friend.

I am not as cool as I used to be with local bands. Most of the bands I listen to everyone knows about. For a while- the Passion Pit was my hidden treasure… but now they are on car commercials. They aren’t so hidden anymore.

The best thing is Twitter, and BurningAngel.com. The worst thing is all the websites with free porn on them that I will not list.

really put these in order I don’t think…. so here in random…

Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy -

I find it difficult to believe that I might be able to say or do anything that hasn’t
already been said about this man or this album.

I think Kanye is wise enough to surround himself around some great artists,
(fine artists, musicians and designers). And you know like us and Nick Hornby
says, “It’s not what you’re like, it’s what you like…”

And just the idea that someone like Kanye West put one of our favorite artists
like Bon Iver on his album well, damn..

here are the two stand out tracks for me.

tallest man on earth – the wild hunt -

I kind of tell people, the Tallest Man on Earth (aka Kristian Matsson, nice name, eh?)
is a bit of like a Swedish Bob Dylan. I tell them, they’ll hate him for the first ten seconds and
then love him from there on out.

it’s a great album and has a great deal of meaning to me this year.

ass – salt marsh-

yes Ass is back, still same ridiculous name, same beautiful instrumental music.
ASS (aka andreas söderström, another swede) has made another astonishing unnoticed
record. This time he has added some horns and strings and completely made
a instrumental record (prior records have had vocals).

rosetta – determinism of morality -

Once again, Rosetta is back up in the top of this year with their new record. Not much
has changed in the way things are done by Rosetta on this record, with some minor diversions
such as one track with a melodic vocal track . TDOM is just a great heavy slow moving
metal record with vocals used as an instrument, far back in the mix and manipulated.

rocky votolato – true devotion -

I have always liked rocky votolato since his first album but for some reason this record just
really hit home for me this year.
it’s a pretty singer / songwriter album with some nice hooks and some very sincere
and genuine moments to it.

My only issue is that sometimes the lyrics can be a bit too overt.

year of no light – ausserwelt -

the finest thing to come out of France since cheese is this metal band Year of No Light
and their second album Ausserwelt. This is an instrumental doom record with some of the
best crescendoing music I have heard in a long time.

The vinyl release is absolutely beautiful and I suggest ordering it from Europe today.

villagers – becoming a jackyll -

this one came out of nowhere with me. I love this record but seeing them live
was about 15 times better than their actual record is. Conor O’Brien is just stunning
to watch and his intensity and emotion is pretty powerful.

the black keys – brothers -

this is what, the black keys 6th studio album, and how they are continuing to grow
and still write great songs are beyond me. I have literally seen these guys go from
playing in front of like 14 people in pittsburgh on their first tour to playing arenas
and they only get better and better.
if you don’t know, they write great blues inspired rock songs with a soulful skinny
ginger guy singing..

B.O.B. – Gangsta Grillz (mixtape) -

yes I know. his pop inspired album is kind of eh.. but this mixtape is so fucking good.
you need to download it and all the rest of them.
