ESSENTIAL RECORDS

I am not sure what tpg’s reaction will be to this post but whatever, it’s a great album and the last time I ever saw Anthrax in concert was for this record… I thought that this was Anthrax’s “… And Justice for All” personally, not to mention just a really great thrash metal record.

Persistence of Time POT

Either way, check out three tracks below…

Anthrax - One Man Stands

Anthrax - Got the Time (Joe Jackson cover)

Anthrax - Time

scott anthrax can’t play his own song..

Honestly one of my favorite punk records of all time. This record from these Richmond Va punks, was a really nice example of how punk could be melodic, high energy and anthemic. I fucking loved this band for the first 4 albums and actually the last time I was ever in a ‘pit’ was at their show at Slims in SF in 1996.

Avail Dixie

For fans of any uptempo high energy rock / punk:

Avail - Model (the song about models and their drive to stay beautiful)

Avail - Sidewalk (the catchy punk one!)

Avail - Southbound 95 (the anthemic one!)

a B side from that record:

Avail - Song (Alt Version)

Hailing from NC, Milemarker, a band I know a ton of my friends like… This 2000 record, was by far my favorite record by them, maybe it seemed a bit more melodic from their other ones..

In 2000, when he was only 20 years old, Conor Oberst aka Bright Eyes wrote this record. This, for me is the best record he’s ever done. For fans of singer songwriters and so forth. I love these songs.

fevers and mirrors and tits

Bright Eyes - The Calendar Hung Itself

Bright Eyes - Sunrise Sunset

Bright Eyes - A Song to Pass the Time

A B-Side from that era.

Bright Eyes - Jetsabel Removes the Undesirables

OK this record might fall under guilty pleasures too but I fucking LOVE this album. Like I have said in the past I did my internship in college at Fat Wreck Chords and when I would tell music friends / people in college that I was doing it I would get one of two responses.. Holy Shit I love that label. Or they only thing worth anything on that label is Propagandhi (and sometimes, Snuff) It seems that anyone who hated pop punk at the time seemed to sort OK Propagandhi. So for some crazy funny Canadian punk rock…

Propagandhi - Cock Ball Tits

CHECK OUT THE TRACKS BELOW:

Propagandhi - Showdown (GEP)

Propagandhi - Anti Manifesto

Geoff Farina = Karate

One of those bands that start as something and slowly slowly become something else. What started as a post hardcore punk band slowly melds into a jazz inspired indie band. Highly recommended album. This Day Next Year is one of my all time slowed down relaxing songs…

Karate - Lived-But-Yet-Named

Karate - Sever

Karate - This Day Next Year

One of my favorite metal bands when I was kid, Anthrax’s Among the Living was one of the fastest things I had ever heard back then… At the forefront of thrash and speed metal and also huge Public Enemy and Stephen King fans, at 16, I related to them easily. Also, they were one of the only bands that I could correctly duplicate their logo…
