So last night I had a free ticket to see Chester French and Asher Roth at Blender’s Gramercy Theater. (thanks L.)

This is going to be a short quick review but I wanted to say a few things; I sometimes wonder what artist’s intentions are. You know? Let me say to begin, that the show was fun and he’s a pretty great performer. And not to mention, he had some really interesting messages (i.e. Good Health and America’s obession with fast food and issues with obescity), although I could always do without the “Legalize Pot, blah blah blah” shtick, I’ve seen cypress hill enough in my lifetime for that.

My main issue with an artist like that is what is more important, being taken seriously or making money? Cause if you write a song like “I love College” and then don’t expect frat boys to show up at your show, your sadly mistaken. You know? So how does an artist tackle that idea of being creative integrity and getting paid?

Also something else was weird, the girls at the show were all dressed like they were going on dates. I mean straight up heels and dresses. Huh??

Just some thoughts.. Chester French was fun, reminded me of beck a bit. Asher Roth can rap for sure.. Just don’t know what his plans for the future are.

WHAT RECORD I HEART:
LeShok – S & M, Slamdance Cosmopolis 01, Recorded 2000, Released 2001

WHY IT’S SPECIAL:
This new wave punk band featured members of the Locust and released this 3 song 7 inch in 2001. I’ve never played or opened this record once so who knows what the 7 inch inside looks or sounds like. On the side of the record, keeping it closed, it has a little sticker that says;

“This 7 inch has a BONUS song pressed onto the record cover. The playable cover DOES NOT play on all turntables… IF IT doesn’t play on yours we suggest you go to your friends (sic) house and try her record player cause the song is fucking great.”

How fucking awesome is that??

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:

WHAT’S ON IT:
“No Fun at the Beaches”
b/w
“I Want the Beat”
“White Outs”

I am a little hard pressed to find a track by Le Shok, let alone one that was one this 7 inch… anyone got a le shok song out there that I can add to this post??

I did find this..

how fucking brilliant is this video? even with him getting punched in the middle of it.. Oh SD, how can I not love you and your ridiculous hair.

Anyone else got this one??
