So, I get a text message from blackberry a week before I went away for holiday about upgrading my OS (operating system) on my phone to the newest update (4.5).
About a week or two ago, I decided to download the new OS and use all the new cool features on my phone, (video camera, html emails, etc.)
So I download the OS, and try to put it on my phone. When I do this, my phone just shuts off. Really just shuts down. So I reboot, reinstall the OS and this time it goes through. But I can tell that my phone is really running slow. So I change a bunch of things on my phone and it seems to run ok. A few days later my phone starts shutting down for no reason. Ill start to type a text and the fucker will just go black on me.
I go on crackberry.com and post a forum, (my first post ever) and someone suggests I reformat my SD card. I do so, losing about 10% of everything on there for no reason. I put the card back in the phone and it works….
For two days.
Now, not only is the phone shutting off but now when the phone stays on, I get no service. NONE. and I know I am in places where I should be getting service, like my house. What the fuck? But now it’s worse. like about 20 percent of the day I am getting my phone to work.
So I deduct that it must be that the OS was improperly downloaded on my phone and I go on crackberry again, this time writing a post called MY 8300 (blackberry) is FUCKED! help!
now yes I used the F word but really,… I get like 10 responses in like 2 minutes, one of them offering help and the rest chastising me for using the F word. Saying things like … “this is a family forum, don’t use offensive language.”
wait, CRACKberry is a family forum. remind me to do a website helping people with IPODS called BROKEN IPODS ARE LIKE AIDS, (nobody likes them).
Really, the family orientated website CRACKBERRY.com, just yelled at me cause I used the F word. Jesus. (read the ridiculous responses HERE.)
Anyway, so after arguing with these people, I get a few people helping out and one of them suggests me wiping the phone and reinstalling the OS properly. Which I do. Just like them tell me. However..now when I restart, it looks like it words…
for ten minutes.
Now, it doesn’t get service AT ALL. I left the phone on for ten hours as I sleep and no service. Not once.
SO I go to the At&t service center on 42nd Street and have this plan in my mind that I am going to convince someone there to give me a new Bold and take this phone away from me forever. This does not happen. This doesn’t come close to what happens. I go and tell Tamika, the service girl there, what happened and she tells me that I am out of warranty. OK. But you guys are the ones who told me to upgrade. This isn’t my fault.

I know that all my rants are about how I get fucked over my corporate America but I sometimes can’t believe companies’ behavior. Not to mention, that my phone bill is approx 200 bucks a month, which averages close to almost 2500 a year, I have also gone through 5 blackberrys since Oct of 07. 5. not 2. not 4. 5. Yes that does mean that I use this baby a lot but that also means that the product isn’t THAT durable.
So you sell me an inferior product at a large sum *(300 dollars w a 2 year contract and a one year warranty) and when it breaks for the 5th time in 14 months by installing something YOU tell me to install, you are not willing to exchange it for THE SAME PHONE.
what a fucking racket. and we wonder why people go to other countries to buy our electronics and cars. Cause we have created loopholes in our system so large companies can make money off of people who work hard and need these products.
You know how they say “They don’t make things like they used to..”
That’s a true statement. Cause back in the day, a company, let’s call them, Timmy’s Toasters, would make a toaster made from the same metal they make bomb shelters out of. And Timmy’s toasters wouldn’t break unless you tried to toast nuclear items or used to bludgeon someone with it. So no one would buy another toaster from Timmy’s. So Timmy’s went out of business. And then Electriclane (a group under the GE umbrella) came out with plastic toasters that explode in flames after your 1000th toast so you can buy another one quickly after.
Anyway, so the Tamika can’t help me besides rewiping my phone and putting the old OS on it. NEGATORY. Doesn’t work. So I guess my phone is fucked. But since I can’t exchange I have to call someone on the super secret batphone (cause it’s God’s day) and talk to someone somewhere about getting me a new phone for less than 896 dollars.
But since I am still in my 2 year contract, Jennie from Ohio, tell me, that I am still unable to upgrade me. However, they might be able to get me an special upgrade early for the very low price of 75 dollars (plus whatever the phone is costing me.)
“wow, that is fucking special.”
So I talk to her and tell her that I think that that’s a bit retarded and that, I not only have been with them for 4 years but that I have gone through 5 of these phones already AND it broke cause they told me to update my software AND I spend about 2500 dollars annually to them on my phone bill already. She tells me she’ll see what she can do about waiving that 75.00 fee.
So she comes back on the phone after a 5 minute wait and tells me that since I am a “valued customer” that she can knock of that fee and sell me a phone. BUT the only phone she has in stock is the CURVE at a new price of 450, minus a 100 dollars off rebate.
350 dollars? Um, NO. I told her that I don’t want to pay that for the same phone that has been breaking on me for the past year, not too mention that I have to sign ANOTHER 2 year contract.
*getting frustrated*
“so can anyone do anything at all that is helpful? I mean I wouldn’t be here if you didn’t tell me to update this phone.”
Well, she says, we can talk to the rebate dept and see if they can help you out. (This is now the 3rd party I have talked to on the phone by now, not counting 1 hour with Tamika.)
“Hi this is Anna, how can I help you?”
fuck, really, I have to tell the story again? My hand hurts from typing this fucking story already and i haven’t even finished, I have to tell this fuckin’ woman the story all over.
She tells me that she has a phone refurbished for 250 dollars a BOLD but I have to pay with a card and I can’t put it on my account.
UGH.
I hang up. Period. I can’t. I mean it takes a lot to upset me and things like this just drive me up the wall. Maybe it’s a control issue but when I tell people what happened, everyone and I mean everyone, says “that’s fucked” but At&t have all these loopholes in their system so that you are forced to spend more money as compared to helping out.
At&t has just been added to the list of companies that I want to hit over the head with a sack full of doorknobs.
