I know I’ve bitched about this in the past, actually did in my Hawai’i post but I’d really like to expound on this topic for a brief moment.
So after being delayed for 2 hours for some mysterious “mechanical” problem, we are shuffled on to our almost 6 hour flight from jfk to lax.
As we’re boarding they tell us that we are able to purchase a lunch if wed like.
How, please tell me, is this good business? If delta was a dude I’d punch him square in the face.
Wtf?
Charge me for food? I just waiting an extra two hours for something that you won’t even tell me about and then you have the audacity to charge me for food ?? I’m on your plane for almost 6 hour and you won’t feed me?
I showed up to the airport 1 hour early like you told me. So let’s make believe I had a bagel at 830a this morning which I did. Then expected that might be able to hold me over till I get to LA.
So its been almost 4 hours since I ate since I refuse to eat anything at JFK cause its all too expensive for crazy bad for you. So now I’m waiting another 6 hours to eat cause of the flight.
So I won’t anything for 10 hours and YOU, Delta have the balls to charge me for fucking a meal??
Screw you Delta.
This is the reason you’re going ass up.
Losing weight. Tpg.

“if delta was a dude I’d punch him square in the face”
So perfectly put. American canceled a flight, stranding me in Chicago for the night, and told me I could either pay for a hotel or sleep at the airport. I feel your pain.

Sorry I have to weigh in here. Yes being delayed is a pain. However it’s not the fault of the airline at all (caveat: in most cases) You say they delayed you becuase of ‘mechincal problems’ this is airline speak for any number of issues and it may not even be an actual mechincal problem with YOUR plane.
In alot of cases the airline will throw out the ‘mechical’ excuse for anything becuase it’s something that customers will pay attention to. No one wants to get on a plane that may crash.
More likely the ap you left out of was busy trying to land planes on the very over-crowded runways in the NY area. Yesterday there was bad weather in the forecast and they can’t take chances having planes in the sky while they have long haul flights coming in from all corners of the globe.
Or the crew couldn’t arrive from connecting aps. Or there was a problem with another plane that caused ground crew to focus on that, rather that readying your plane for departure. Etc, etc. There a million reasons they would use that excuse. Most people don’t understand these and would get IRATE if they were a bit more truthful.
You have to remember that you’re flying with a company that has profits that are so small per seat they could slice them with a razor. It costs roughly the same to fly to London today as it did 50 years ago (with inflation factored in!!) Think about that for a second.
As for the choice of offering you a sandwich for a charge. It should matter. If you want to keep paying those very very low prices, buy the sandwich. Or take one with you from home. I never get on a plane without a few snacks. The airlines are forced to compete in a market where for some deregulation or regulation are forced to cut fare prices. The cost of them taking the ‘free’ meals is actually a big deal to them. Think of it this way: When the plane takes off with the free meals that adds weight to the plane. The idea of an airplane is that it stay in the air. So those meals add fuel costs to the plane. Take that per plane over the length of a year, and it could add up to 10′s of thousands…per plane! Again on an already taxed company that’s big money.
Most of the problems with avaition today are related to gov’t oversight (or short sight) and not exactly the fault of whatever company you’re paying to get you from point a to point b.
I blame Bush everytime i’m delayed.

the problem with that is, is that European airlines do not deal with customers in the same way American corps do.
I mean on Icelandic airways they gave coach everything but happy endings and their economy is in the shitter, worse than ours.
its about how they deal with customers is more of the point.
PS Stop sucking corporations dicks.
(weird my spell check won’t recognize shitter).

hey bro, i feel you, delta canceled my flight for no reason, luckily they called me before i left for the airport. stuck in the sticks for new years though…

Hmm.
I’m going to ignore the dicks comment. If you don’t care to see where you should lay your blame it’s your deal brother man.
EU airlines are ironically part of why you had to buy that sandwich. Becuase they are now being given permission to operate home bases out of the US. Meaning you will soon be able to take an Air France/BA/Icelandic flight from NYC to Dallas (or where evs) Causing big competition in our market. There’s part of the deregulation i was talking about.
Those airlines are HEAVILY subsidized by their gov’ts so they can get away with a lot more.
And really dude: When is the last time you weren’t offered a freakin meal on an int’l flight, regardless of the companies origin? I’ve flown to Montreal and gotten a sodey pop out of them.
