love your insight… but the Naughty By Nature snubbing misses the point that Treach was BY FAR one of the best lyricists of his time. I don’t think “hits” are any sort of criteria for a genre which wasn’t accepted in the mainstream until the mid 90s. NBN’s 2 “hits” are at least one more than Slick Rick’s, and probably equal to De La Soul’s 2 (Me Myself and I and…. what would their second “hit” be?? OOOH?? All Good?? Baby Phat?)
His album verses are insane, his cameos were always top notch, and he influenced everyone from 2Pac to Eminem, and they always said so as well. Vinnie was a turd, KayGee made good (not great) beats, but since you can’t give an individual award to an artist who didn’t have a solo career I will gladly watch the whole of NBN to see Treach get his dues.
holllller.

I mean I hear you. But I would much rather give it to Mobb Deep, Audio Two, Black Moon or something…
