The National @ BAM Friday 2/22 vs. Saturday 2/23
Posted by james under the daily enlightenment with jamesSo this past weekend I had the chance to check out the National @ BAM both Friday & Saturday night. (Thanks to scalpers I got Sat. tickets cheap on the streets) Anyways, here’s my take.
Friday’s show was more low key and stuffy. It’s really odd to see a “rock” show where we are suppose to sit in out seats. At the Saturday show, the band told everyone it was okay to stand, so that was better. Saturday the band also seemed a bit more relaxed and comfortable with the venue, the Sat. version of Mr. November was probably one of the best versions I have ever heard, Matt and the band gave it their all. Saturday 2/23 was better…..
Here are the set list for each night, and if you go to Nyctaper.com you can download his recording of Friday’s show!

Were they playing with an orchestra or just usual setup? Did they change the arrangements at all for the venue?

They did play with a flutish, cellist, violinist, i believe a person playing a oboe. And of course the trumpets and horns that played with them on Letterman. Oh, yeah and Sufjan Stevens came out both nights to play piano on ADA. I was hoping they were going to play all their slower songs with the orchestra, but it was a standard National rawk show.

Your set lists are perhaps slightly suspect. I was only at 2/23 and didn’t keep a list, but I know they played the new song both nights ’cause Matt told the audience on Saturday that “last night was the first time we played this song.”
Thanks though for the compare-and-contrast; I had sort of pieced together that it seemed like we got the better of the 2 shows on Saturday night but yours is the first writeup I’ve seen from someone who saw both.
