Fugazi In On The Kill Taker Steve Albini Demos….

A buddy of mine sent me this link the other day after we were talking about the Steve Albini sound. Little did we know, but Steve was set to produce Fugazi’s record IN ON THE KILL TAKER. Well they did some demos with him, and were not happy with it and went back to DC to record with Ted Nicely again. Man, I’ve looked for this for a long time. I kinda remember reading an interview where Ian said no one would ever hear this. I love this stuff but the Dischord release is to my ears a better mix, and I love Albini music. Thanks!

Oh, fuck me, that’s magic. Every thing I love about the Jesus Lizard, with Ian & Guy on vox. How this didn’t leak until recently is beyond me. Krist, you rule. You rule hard.

These versions are interesting, and you can definitely hear the Albini sound, but I can understand why they were unhappy with them. All of the subtlety of the songs is gone, especially on 23 Beats Off, Smallpox Champion, and Casavettes. I’m sure a lot of it is the result of these being demos, and the mixing/mastering, etc. but I think they made the right choice.

I know I would totally love to have heard what this would have sounded like mastered.
But I think you can really albini’s room? you know what I mean? big.
