Braid has always been a favorite of mine, and way back when in 2001 I found a whole collection of acoustic songs performed by Braid and Hey Mercedes front dude Bob Nanna. Nanna made a list of his favorite songs of all time and recorded a big portion of some toward the middle of the list. They’re some of my favorite recordings, ever, and served as an introduction to some other bands I now consider favorites. Here are two from that collection.

Bob Nanna – 68

68 is a Jawbox song. It’s about work. This song is so great. I also have a cover of it by Pilot to Gunner, off of a Jawbox tribute album, which slays.

Bob Nanna – If you hurt me

If you hurt me is a Small Factory song. I’ve never met anyone else who has heard of Small Factory, and I hadn’t before I heard this cover, but they’re a really great kind of punk kind of twee 3 piece from Rhode Island that broke up in like 1996. Their drummer was named Phoebe Summersquash thanks to her hippy parents, but that’s probably the best name ever. I have a lot of their stuff, so post up in the comments if you’d care to hear them.

Please enjoy the Bob Nanna songs and hear his stuff from The City on Film at www.redderrecords.com, among other places.
