Part 3 in thepunkguy’s Great MC’s, the original Lyricist: Rakim.

One of the original MCs to take lyrics seriously. Rakim was the originator and definitely the first MC that make me love word play, rhyme scheme and delivery. Well, him and KRS ONE. Oops, that’ll be soon enough… Take a listen to some of Rakim’s best work:
Eric B & Rakim - Microphone Fiend from Follow the Leader .
Eric B & Rakim - Juice (Know The Ledge) from Juice soundtrack .
Eric B & Rakim - Follow the Leader from Follow the Leader .
(more music after the jump)
Eric B & Rakim - Eric B for President from Paid in Full .
Eric B & Rakim - In The Ghetto from Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em .
Eric B & Rakim - Lyrics of Fury from Follow the Leader .
Eric B & Rakim - Don’t Sweat the Technique from Don’t Sweat the Technique .
Talib Kweli and Rakim - Subway Surfin from Confidential .
Eric B & Rakim - Mahogany from Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em .

first…i applaud your taste in hip hop.
second…i apologize that this doesnt really fit as a comment on this post, but i havent seen an email address anywhere (this isnt to suggest it isnt there…for all i know its huge at the top of thepunkguy.com) so this is how im suggesting something i didnt know about to you.
third…i recommend an album/mixtape/collaboration that i found out about just the other day. “uncommonly nasty” by…can you guess who? common and nas (haha…get it?) anyway…i happen to love both artists and recommend it highly.
