I’m a pretty big fan of The Hold Steady’s latest album ‘Boys and Girls In America’. I’ve listened to it countless times. I’ve memorized lyrics and even used a few for my instant messanger status quote. What I apparently haven’t done is memorize what they look like.

Last night I sat beside, was introduced to and chatted with Tad from The Hold Steady. Only I just realized it after watching the new video for “Stuck Between Station”.

Damn these good for nothing celebrity eyes!

Copenhagen’s EFTERKLANG, release their new album Under Giant Trees on April 2nd. Think really pretty peaceful orchestrated music over minimal strings and guitars that grow into something bigger with lots of vocals. Maybe a bit like DetektivbyrÃ¥n or Grizzly Bear.

For those who don’t know this band, which I am sure many of you do, the Swing Kids were from San Diego (what is up with all these SD posts??), which features members of the Locust, Holy Molar, Some Girls and many other “Spock-Rock” bands from that area.

Wikipedia says .. “Swing Kids were a hardcore/political punk band from San Diego California during the mid 1990s. The band members were Eric Allen (of Unbroken), Jose Palafox (of Struggle and Bread and Circuits), John Brady (of Spanakorzo and Sweep The Leg Johnny), and was fronted by Justin Pearson who would release their recordings on his own Three One G record label.

Their music was characterized by Justin Pearson’s spoken/screamed vocals and their melodic/chaotic rhythms & song structures. Swing Kids were most obviously influenced by fellow San Diegan bands Antioch Arrow and Drive Like Jehu. On a broader scale, their music and lyrics were influenced by punk rock and post-punk.”

Both songs highly recommended, RIYL: Refused, Blood Brothers any screamy jazz influenced punk!

So all my friends in Brooklyn, keep telling me about their friends in this band called Cocaine and Abel. They are a two piece, from what I can gather on their myspace page.

You should check them out if you are into noisy stoner rock or go to parties often in Williamsburg cause I guess they play out quite a bit over there.

A real quick Demons in the DVR, a post about things I come across in my DVR and have to rewind or fast forward …

I am sure you have all seen THIS COMMERCIAL FOR VCAST … where some dumb ass jock gets “pumped up” at the gym to Fall Out Boy and then gets a call from his bitch… wait, he doesn’t say bitch but you know he just got done telling his muscle-y straight waxed ‘friends’ about how well she goes down on him, thus reaffirming his heterosexuality, while admiring his body in the mirror. Yes?

You know that Fall Out Boy must HATE this commercial more than life itself. They must say, “Hey didn’t that dude kick our asses for years in high school??”

This is the potential trouble when you lend your music out to commercials, prior to knowing what context the music will be used for. Of course, assuming Fall Out Boy didn’t…

I tried to follow this up with something the band might have said on their messageboard but all I saw where posts like this… “can someone send me the link of that video of the girl who’s like “1′M 4 R34L F4N 0F T41,P!4TD, 4ND F0B C4US3 1 H4V3 TH3S3 SH1RTS FR0M H0T T0P1C!!!111!1one one one” and “Why does Fall Out Boy like monkeys so much?” no shit.

Grrr, either way, this commercial makes me cringe more than almost any other one out there with the exception of a FEW.
