(WARNING: this music is not for the faint of heart, approach with an open mind and something to shield your eyes with.)
For the most part, when people on the east coast talk about “hardcore” music, they talk about muscular guys, with Italian last names screaming about things like DMS and the “streets.” (read: Agnostic Front, Warzone, Madball, and countless other one word named bands)
However, I always leaned towards the melodic. No matter how heavy and fast.
First up to bat, Saetia, a band from NYC (NYU to be exact) was a great “screamo hardcore” group with some great melodic breakdowns. They were spastic, heavy and insane…

A great quote from their old site.. ” Saetia was a band from New York City that formed in early 1997. Saetia’s first show was at ABC No Rio to about 30 people. 2.5 years, 17 songs, numerous tours and 4 bassplayers later, Saetia played their final show at ABC No Rio to 40 people.”
I was at that last show. It was great!
Ex Members are now in Hot Cross and Off Minor. Buy their discography here.
First a melodic track .. Saetia - Postlapsaria
