Dear Mike Patton, formerly of Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, etc,

Would you please put out a record that showcases your voice again?

Pretty Please?!

Dear thepunkguy,

How about I make a whole record featuring Rahzel, Amon Tobin, Dan the Automator, Kool Keith, Every MC from anticon, and Norah Jones?

Here is a song I did called Mojo.

Peeping Tom - Mojo (feat. Rahzel and Dan the Automator)  (link expired)

The album is called Peeping Tom. For fans of old school hip hop, Faith No More and Prince. No kidding.

Hope you like,

Your dearest Fan,

Michael Bartholomey Patton

PS here is an old one too. It has cheerleaders in it. Faith No More - Be Aggressive (link expired)
Kisses. GO and BUY THIS ALBUM WHEN IT COMES OUT ON MAY 26th!

Egotastic has this great new international Superman trailer.
Does anyone else think that Brett Ratner is going to ruin the new XMen movie?

Also I heard that the fountain is getting some horrible reviews. Sad, so sad.

Aini’t it Cool News has posted something about the new new Gondry film call Be Kind, Rewind.
Read it, it looks hysterical.

Phil’s mum from Radiohead died last week as per Radiohead’s blog

It took them 3 days to bootleg the Da Vinci Code

some NEW music on its way.

The Books, Paul de Jong and Nick Zammuto, are a two piece ‘cut and paste team’ from New England, (I think.)

They make songs with samples, a guitar, vocals and a cello. One of them looks identical to a young Paul Simon. Swear.

Anyway, OHMYROCKNESS tells us that they are playing a free show at the WfC, downtown. Tickets are free but you have to pick them up at 5.

Here is a song off the record Lemon of Pink. And no I don’t just love this song cause it’s called Tokyo. Also I think this song was used in an HIV awareness commercial.

The Books - Tokyo   (link expired)

and here is a song from a tour only EP called music for a french elevator.

The Books - Liternite   (link expired)
I am going to go and take some pictures I think. go.

I just realized how to change my tracks to MP3 from MP4a.

so here is the Lifetime song from the anti-matter compilation, this is a different version

of the song that’s on Jersey’s Best Dancers.

Lifetime - Theme from a New Brunswick Show (early version)   (link expired)
will I see you at the Show?

Like a nicer, less bald Nicholas Cage, Jonah Matranga, does one for the studio and one for us. Or at least that is how it seems.

One of the most passionate singers I have ever seen live, Jonah, has gone through more bands than most. Usually one on a Major Label and then back to an indie.

Looking at his site here is what his discography looks like.

Solo Releases:

Jonah Sonz Matranga - Songs I Hope My Mom Will Like (1994) (cassette)
Jonah Matranga - Jonah’s One-Line Drawing (1998) (cassette)

Far - Water & Solutions (1998 Epic/Immortal)
New End Original - Lukewarm single (2001 Jade Tree)
New End Original - Thriller (2001 Jade Tree)
Gratitude - Gratitude (2005 Atlantic)

He started off in the Sacremento band Far. They sound a bit like a cross between Quicksand and later, non digital Deftones.

Here is a song from the Water and Solutions record. It showcases his passionate vocals and Far’s “ahead of their time” sound…

Far - Man Overboard  (link expired)

He also does some great solo live stuff also.

I once saw him in NJ, and Candiria, the metal - jazz band, was playing next door and he kept battling with them to be louder. He lost but not without trying. He would occassional sing acapella, with the mic at his side. It was honestly breathtaking.

Anyway, he is a very honest performer, always waiting to meet fans. He sells all of his own music on a sliding scale and he is a lot of fun to see live. Not to mention that he used to tour with a robotic R2D2 that would create the drumbeats for his solo work. He also can be quite funny at times.

Here is the funny and sweet; Livin’ Small..

Jonah’s take on mtv’s cribs, celebrity, idealism, “living large” and punk rock pimps and hoes.

Onelinedrawing - Livin’ Small    (link expired)
You have to love the line.. “You KNOW it’s not really all about the Benjamins.”

and…

“if that’s what passes these days for livin’ large, than I am happy livin’ small.”

I thought I might post a cover or two on Sundays. Sort of like “two for tuesdays” just not as lame.

or maybe equally as lame..

I figured I would I would post something from one of my favorite (and maybe yours too) artists.

Elliott Smith.

For all those who don’t know, he was an incredible songwriter, guitar player and composer. He was shy and fought drug addiction for most of his life until he committed suicide a few years ago.

I surely couldn’t write anything that hasn’t been written about him except that he had a great impact on my life.

I listened to him non stop throughout my college years and saw him play a few times. Each time more special and intimate then the last. I think I will post more about him in the future.
Anyway, he was a big Beatles fan and this is him covering a George Harrison song in 2001.

Elliott Smith - Give me Love (George Harrison cover) Live

Enjoy.

As Brooklynvegan Reported, Lifetime tickets for Bowery Ballroom went on sale on friday for July 8th. As of the time of this posting, there are still some more available. And between three of my friends, we bought twelve tickets.
Not for scalping reasons, just cause we all know at least 12 people, who’d love to go.

Jersey is an interesting place. And without going too much into why and where and how it doesn’t really stink… (metaphorically and literally)
Lifetime, Click for Bio, is from New Brunswick, NJ. They had great fast punk songs with incredible melodic breakdowns.

Lifetime is currently back together, after breaking up and going their own seperate ways… (steve perry gets a nickel).., But now they are back together, and no longer on Jade Tree (their last label). They will be putting a new record out on one of the members of Fall out Boy’s label.

(Damn, I was going to post the Theme from a New Brunswick show (early version) here but I still haven’t figured out quite how to change the format from Mp4a to Mp3. (anyone know how to do that?)

Anyway, here is another song by them off of the Jersey’s Best Dancers record.
Lifetime - Francie Nolan   (link expired)
here’s another one that does show off their signatory sound off the Jersey’s Best Dancers record.
Lifetime - The boys no Good.  (link expired)

The song I was going to post is from a compilation by Norm Arenas (from the famed Texas is the Reason) called Anti Matter Compilation. It is one of the best compilation records I have ever gotten, with songs by Gameface, 108, Snapcase, Texas, Lifetime, live CIV and an unreleased Quicksand song.

I figured.. why not let you hear texas is the reason? One of my favorite band names ever.

Texas_is_the_Reason_Blue_Boy   (link expired)

This song is only available on vinyl from Jade Tree. Please go there and buy it, if it’s still available. The Bside is a great Promise Ring song.

I can’t believe how many posts and blogs I read that rarely mention some of the better older hip hop.

I would love to post two songs that were influential hip hop songs from the late 80’s, early 90’s.

First is..

KMD doing Peachfuzz. KMD features MF Doom before he got all indie. Also featured is the late Zev Love X. Kmd was down with 3rd Bass. This is when Hip Hop still had a light air to it. It is a lot of fun and is even pretty self derogatory.

KMD - Peachfuzz   (link expired)

The next is..

Main Source doing Lookin” at the Front door. Main Source was the first group to feature Nas on any record, back when he was known as Nasty Nas. Lookin at the front Door was pretty anthemic to my friends growing up. And we used to love singing (rapping?) the line “I should win an award for lots of patience” cause it sounds nothing like that..

Also the Large Professor became one of the bigger producers to come out of this era thus defining the NY Sound.

Hip to the Hop. Don’t Stop.

Hey there..

I wanted to write and say hello to all of those who might be reading. Hi

Here is my first post
a song by a band called Isolation Years.

This is a band that I came across on buddyhead’s site years and years ago when they

used to post songs illegally (as compared to semi-illegally now) on their site.

Isolation Years is a Swedish band that I often have trouble explaning.

Isolation Years _ I’m gonna flip  (link expired)
Also I figured I might as well give you one more Swedish song.

Viva Sverige..

This is Junip, Jose Gonzalez’s band. Sorry the quality isn’t amazing, since it is not really available in

the states, it was hard to obtain. This is a Woody Guthrie cover. I think Rage against the Machine covers it. I

am guessing it isn’t similar.

Junip (featuring Jose Gonzalez) - The Ghost of Tom Joad (link expired)
Till tomorrow. thepunkguy
